When I travel to a city which I like I usually picture myself living there and think how my life would be if I moved there. If you are a nomad soul like mine, the this rings a bell, right?

Psychogeography and branding may still be a bit unknown to the masses but it really have an impact on our lives in our inner emotions and behavior. Architects, urban designers, local businesses and even residents, they all have a huge responsibility in their hands.

For instance, Barcelona is a one of those cities that everybody loves. When this topic comes out with my friends from the UK or India, they always take Barcelona as the Spanish capital city, even when it’s not. Anyway, it is so evident that this city is vibrant and inspires. Is it the rich culture? or multicultural environment?, the residents? or a perfect fusion?

Considering the great variety of suburbs, wide and huge green areas, mix of tiny little antique passages in contrast with modern broad avenues, makes Barcelona a diverse and super flexible city where life becomes an amazing experience in many senses.

One of the things that really draws my attention when I travel are the taxis, this may sound odd but to my judgment taxis causes an immense branding impact and differentiation. Have you seen Barcelona’s taxis yet? have a look at the picture, they are so much different to the rest of the taxis in Spain, let alone London, Berlin and New York taxis.

Psychogeography and branding are strongly interrelated. Barcelona is smart and has played the game very well, successfully has become a brand that reveal its essence across many channels such as layout, colours, diversity, buildings, people’s behaviour and entrepreneur atmosphere. Of course it hasn’t happened in one day, this is an ongoing and lifetime project in constant evolution.
